Bronx resident Rasheed Campbell, 23, was sentenced to a term of between three to five years in prison after being sentenced on Wednesday, July 24 for assault and two counts of criminal possession of stolen property. He was also ordered to pay restitution to his victims and his victims’ insurance companies for stealing a pair of vehicles.

On Oct. 7, 2017, an officer from the Bronxville Police Department attempted to stop a driver after recognizing a blue 2015 Toyota Camry that had been reported stolen. The driver failed to stop and the driver - later identified as Campbell - lost control as he attempted to turn onto Bronxville Road.

Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., said that the vehicle went onto the sidewalk, struck another vehicle, stairs and then overturned. Campbell then fled on food, though a blood sample left on the driver’s side airbag was later traced back to him.

Scarpino said that in a separate incident on Dec. 23 last year, a Mount Vernon Police officer located a stolen Mercedes-Benz in a parking lot. When the officer approached, he found Campbell in the driver’s seat.

Campbell proceeded to resist arrest and injured the police officer in the process before he was taken into custody. While he was being arrested, officers found 13 bags of marijuana in Campbell’s underwear, Scarpino noted.

The injured officer required surgery for a ruptured tendon in his right arm. Campbell pleaded guilty to the charges against him in June.
